With just weeks to go before the June 24 primary, City Comptroller Brad Lander is making his pitch for strong leadership as a mayoral candidate.
Lander, who has spent his career working on affordable housing and holding the city financially accountable, says his experience makes him the right person for the job.
“I’ve audited every city agency, so I know how they work and how they don’t work,” he said. “I know how we can make better use of our dollars.”
Lander’s platform includes tackling homelessness, expanding affordable housing and child care and improving public safety. He also emphasized his ability to stand up to the federal government, especially considering continued tensions with the Trump administration.
“You have to stand up to bullies,” Lander said. “I have plans for how we can put money in our reserves, so if there are cuts at the federal level, we can still invest in housing and health care that New Yorkers rely on.”
Lander is one of the top three fundraisers in the race, polling in third place behind Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani.
