Development near the corner of Water and Dock streets in DUMBO is meeting with opposition among residents.
Developers hope to build a 17-story residential building in the area. The proposed plan includes the construction of a middle school within the building, something residents have said is needed in the area.
DUMBO residents fear construction of a high-rise building would be detrimental to the community?s view of the Brooklyn Bridge. They say that view is part of what gives the neighborhood its distinctive character.
Councilman David Yassky (D-Brooklyn) also opposes the construction and says he is actively seeking a different destination to build a middle school.
