Family members held a Christmas Day vigil for Brenda Lee Rawls, 53, who died exactly two weeks ago.
Brenda was a well-known churchgoer and an avid volunteer who worked with the homeless. Her family came together on Christmas Day to promote her legacy of volunteerism and community service.
They told News 12 Connecticut they are heartbroken in the wake of her sudden and unexpected death. They say Brenda was found deceased in a house on Pearl Street. Her family is dumbfounded as to what could have happened to her.
They said when they went to the police department looking for answers, they were told nobody could help them. The family said city officials never notified them of her death. They found out themselves after making frantic phone calls when they couldn't reach Brenda, who they say always kept to a strict routine.
Bridgeport officials said the case is under investigation. The Bridgeport medical examiner is expected to release the cause of death in 6-8 weeks.
News 12 reached out to city officials for a comment but have yet to receive a response.
