Bridgeport rolls out new initiative to help high school kids who want to go to college in CT

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim announced Wednesday a new initiative called "Bridgeport Promise."
"It's a scholarship program funded by $1.5 million in city and private dollars, and for kids who meet the financial requirement, it's a game-changer," Ganim said.
The program aims to improve college accessibility and success by offering scholarships for students to attend participating colleges and universities in Connecticut - such as UB and UCONN - with administration and funding provided by city and private partners.
"We are offering this opportunity to 120 Bridgeport high school students who've shown through their coursework that they're serious about their educational goals and that they would follow through and use this opportunity as a 'hand up', not a 'hand out'," Ganim said.
