A disabled Bronx mother says she feels trapped in her sixth-floor Mount Hope Apartment due to the elevator being out of service for over a week.
Yasmine Rodriguez is blind, which makes it very difficult for her to get down the stairs. She requires assistance from her home aide to make it down to the lobby.
“It's been hard the steps are a lot,” says Rodriguez. “If I go down the steps, I can fall anything could happen to me.”
According to a notice in the building, building management has been waiting for at least a week for the city to sign off to approve inspection for the elevator.
The city’s Department of Buildings says it conducted an inspection on Wednesday and passed the unit’s brakes, but found the hoist cables to be warn.  The DOB says that contractors have since replaced the worn apparatus and that a follow-up inspection is scheduled for Friday.
