A Bronx building superintendent turned super hero was honored Sunday by having a street co-named after him.

News 12's Noëlle Lilley was in Soundview as the community celebrated Luis Torres.

It was like a family reunion on Watson Avenue and Elder Avenue, which will now also be known as “Luis Angel 'The Super' Torres Way” – named after a local man who was known as a protector of Bronx youth in the 1970s and 1980s.

An immigrant who came be known affectionately as the "Supa" – Luis Torres used to manage multiple buildings in the neighborhood. He saw how the drug epidemic was impacting young people in Soundview, so he used his position as a building super to create a safe haven for kids.

Through his 45 years of work, he helped create a youth clubhouse, sports teams and a neighborhood association. Today, community members, past and present, came to see Torres's name posted in his old neighborhood.

Torres died in 2015, but his family said thanks to the street sign, his memory lives on. Councilman Rafael Salamanca played a crucial role in getting the street renamed.
