Home-based Bronx childcare providers say they're not getting paid what they're worth and they want to unionize.
"No benefits, no sick days," complained Doris Irizarry. "We don't work, we don't get paid."Advocates, Councilman Joel Rivera and representatives from the United Federation of Teachers gathered on the steps of the Bronx County Courthouse Monday in support of a unionization push. The UFT is trying to unionize the city's more than 29,000 providers.
The union recently sent out ballots to providers in the Bronx and city. The New York State Employment Relations Board will count the ballots October 23.
