People in the community are coming together to pray for those impacted by the tragedy in the Dominican Republic. At this time, the death toll has risen to 221.

It was standing room only inside Lincoln Hospital's auditorium, as more than 100 people packed in for a prayer vigil for the victims of the Jet Set night club collapse.

Hospital staff, community leaders and elected officials stood together in solidarity, finding comfort through prayer and song.

The vigil was organized by the Hispanic Clergy Association, and it was one of many held this week.

Officials report 221 people died after the roof collapsed at the Jet Set night club in Santo Domingo on Tuesday. It was a start studded night as merengue singer Ruby Perez was on stage when the ceiling crashed. Perez was unfortunately pulled from the rubble, along with MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco.

Many New Yorkers were also among the victims. Officials say 189 people survived.

Lincoln Hospital CEO Cristina Contreras is from the Dominican Republic.

"It has touched many lives near and far, I know many of us have been personally impacted or know someone who has been personally impacted, and today we come together collectively to remember not just the names, but their souls, their dreams and the light they brought to those around them," said Contreras.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has ordered all state flags to fly half staff this weekend in memory of the victims.
