A Bronx doctor is looking to open a hospital in Kenya.
Dr. Alan Rosenthal has been on 17 different medical mission trips in his career, and his family previously opened a hospital in Haiti. A recent trip to Kenya inspired his next big mission.
“Our next project is to build a small hospital, as we did in Haiti,” said Rosenthal. “It would be a medical and dental clinic in the heart of Kibira, which would have a maternity department, pharmacy, dental and medical."
Rosenthal credits Rabbi Shem Tov’s teachings for his inspiration to go outside of his local community to provide aid for those who are struggling.
"I am here sitting in the Chabad House of Riverdale with Rabbi Shem Tov, who is our spiritual leader in this community, and [he] has inspired us to go outside the community to help all people in need."
Rosenthal says he wants to start this summer, and the community has already rallied to support him by donating supplies.
