Her 65-year-old grandmother is now charged with attempted murder and attempted manslaughter, among multiple other charges.
Maritza Yauger, 65, was arrested. She's also facing charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Yauger is still undergoing a psychological evaluation at St. Barnabas Hospital.
The stabbing happened Tuesday morning at Yauger's home at 1317 Clinton Ave.
Investigators say the girl was visiting her grandma at the time of the attack and lives with her parents in New Jersey.
Yauger's son, the uncle of the girl, found his niece bleeding on a bed, stabbed in the back, neck and stomach. She was also found to have a punctured lung.
There is no known history of Administration for Child Services being involved with the family, and police are still looking into what led to the attack.
Police say the girl is now in stable condition at the hospital and is expected to recover.
