The corner of Kingsland Avenue and Chester Street was co-named Ludie Brown Way on Saturday to commemorate an adored community member.
Ludie Brown lived in the Baychester community for nearly 60 years and was the block association president for many of them.
Family and friends gathered to honor her life and efforts in the community.
“Ludie was a phenomenal woman, she was so involved in everything in the community and outside of the community,” said friend Elizabeth Gill.
Elected officials such as councilmember Kevin Riley and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson also attended the ceremony to show their support.
Gibson also surprised Brown's family by naming July 9 as Ludie Brown Day in the Bronx.
