Bronx residents gathered Tuesday to commemorate High Bridge – New York City's oldest standing bridge.
High Bridge has been standing for 175 years connecting the Bronx with Manhattan. The bridge closed in the early 1970s and reopened in 2015 servicing as a source of recreation and transportation. It has also provided hundreds of acres of green space for New Yorkers.
Hundreds of Manhattan and Bronx schools marched in celebration along with appearances from city officials like Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.
