Bronx communities are marking Wednesday as the 36th anniversary of the Happy Land fire, one of the most deadly fires in New York City history. Bronx Community Board 6 will hold the annual memorial beginning with mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church followed by a procession from Crotona Mall to the Happy Land monument on Southern Boulevard. The somber tradition honors the 87 people who died when an arsonist set fire to the Happy Land social club in West Farms.
