A school for the blind in the Bronx is proving that anyone can play sports.
Lavelle School for the Blind is starting its first baseball program.
News 12 is told 20 students ranging from 13 to 21 years old are learning how to pitch, how to run the bases and hit the ball using a beach ball that helps alert students where the ball is.
"I want them to feel that they are successful at a sport that they can play too. That they are able to hit the ball successfully, they can pick up the ball and do all the things to learn the game," says teacher Karen Gerwez.
The goal is by spring the school will have a friendly scrimmage with other schools.
