A Bronx street vendor who caught the attention of thousands when a video spread of her produce being thrown out by city workers was gifted a $13,000 check by residents in her community.
The city says it threw out Diana Hernandez-Cruz's food due to a permit issue. Both the Street Vendor Project and New York City Workers for Justice coordinated the effort on GoFundMe and received over 100 donations.
Moms United for Black Lives also gifted Cruz with a brand new laptop with free paper and a two-year supply of free ink for her family.
