The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) fielded questions at City Hall Tuesday on whether its Access-a-Ride service has hit a roadblock.
City Council members asked if improvements have been made in response to numerous complaints from disabled and senior users. The Disabled Riders Coalition and other groups argue the Access-a-Ride program stresses users because drivers are often late or don't show up at all. Critics also complain about vehicle quality and drivers frequently taking unnecessary detours. More than 30,000 Brooklyn residents rely on the service.
MTA officials say they are working to increase their fleet, which they believe will alleviate many problems. They also counter complaints are down.
