Some student artists in Brooklyn are hard at work creating monuments that will be displayed in two city parks.
The Art Students League of New York is participating in the Model to Monument program, which is a partnership between the Parks Department and art students.
The students are currently building their sculptures at Serett Metalworks in Gowanus. They started with small models and are now making monuments as high as 30 feet, and it takes about 10 months to go from concept to completed piece of public artwork.
Some of the monuments will go up in Manhattan's Riverside Park, while the rest will be displayed at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
