A Brooklyn-raised artist's work is on display across Macy's windows nationwide as part of Black History Month.
Michael Anthony Pegues says growing up in Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights had a profound impact on his work.
"I was hanging out with guys who were tagging trains and all that stuff like that," he said.
Pegues was looking to get his work noticed on a grand scale, and so he turned to Macy's.
"I believe this summer he came into our store in Herald Square, went into our visual offices and said he needed to be in our windows," said National Windows Director at Macy's Manny Urquizo.
It worked out since Macy's wanted to highlight Black creatives at its stores, including the Downtown Brooklyn location.
Pegues says he wasn't encouraged to be an artist and so he hopes the exposure will be an inspiration to others.
On top of the display, customers can give back through a charitable round up campaign. Purchases can be rounded up to the nearest dollar amount, which will support Black Girls Code and the United Negro College Fund.
