? The American Red Cross wants to make sure Brooklyn residents are safe when they head to beaches this Memorial Day weekend.
The Red Cross advises swimmers to know their limits, only get in the water while a lifeguard is on duty and to keep children at arm?s length. The service organization also says there is truth to the old wives? tale of not eating and swimming, and of course, avoid drinking alcohol and getting into the water.
Despite the risks, many Brooklyn beachgoers say they?re just happy to take the plunge and spend time with their families.
