A group of volunteers is working to keep the streets of Brooklyn safe in the wake of recent attacks.
Brooklyn's Bike Patrol is offering anyone that feels threatened safe passage to their homes. The group asks that anyone looking to use their service call 45 minutes in advance and a volunteer will show up to walk the caller home.
Jay Ruiz started Brooklyn Bike Patrol in 2011 after he saw a video of a woman getting attacked. He decided to do something about it.
"If a woman has somebody to walk them home, the number will have to drop of people getting attacked...We'll walk anybody home," said Ruiz.
The group is trying to recruit more volunteers so they can expand to more neighborhoods in the borough.
Ruiz says the volunteers are closely screened and can be trusted. The service is free and tips will not be accepted.
Anyone interested in using the service can call Brooklyn Bike Patrol at 718-744-7592.
