Brooklyn boxer Melissa St.-Vil has been a world champion in the ring, but she says dealing with trauma has been the biggest battle of her life.

St.-Vil says a 2009 incident in Las Vegas brought back traumatic thoughts from a childhood she says included violence in her home.

Now she’s partnering with nonprofits P.A.V.E. and Give an Hour to offer support to other survivors.

St.-Vil says speaking with people that have had similar experiences has been a great help to her and she hopes to be the same for other survivors.
