Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso officially designated Aug. 16 as "Maino Day" in honor of the local rapper Jermaine Coleman, better known as Maino.
Maino has served as a community advocate and was born and raised in Bed-Stuy.
Reynoso, other elected officials and Brooklyn residents recognized the rapper's contributions to the hip-hop culture and to his local community.
"I want to put up a stage for local artists and have some vendors... I want to have programs that speak on financial literacy, real estate, because the neighborhood needs information," said Maino.
