Brooklyn and city building workers took to the streets Tuesday to rally for a new contract ahead of a potential strike.
Local 32BJ, the union that represents doormen, porters and other residential building workers, and the Realty Advisory Board, the group that represents the building owners, have been negotiating a new contract for several weeks. The union is calling for a contract with wage increases and full health care coverage. However, the board says rising health care costs require some concession on the part of union members.
Both sides plan to negotiate around the clock to reach a deal. The union says if a deal is not reached by Friday, members will strike.
