A group of immigrant workers stood up to their employer and won when they demanded overtime pay. When a group of six immigrant workers asked for overtime pay at Bear Glass Incorporated, they were fired. Outraged and unemployed, the group turned to Assemblyman Flex Ortiz. After an investigation by the New York State Department of Labor, Bear Glass agreed to pay the workers a total of $90,000. State Labor Commissioner Patricia Smith says the $90,000 was comprised of overtime, underpaid wages and illegal deductions.
