The Brooklyn District Attorney has caused mixed feelings throughout the city due to his comments on prostitution.

During a Q&A with the Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said he believes in decriminalizing consensual prostitution.

During that Q&A, he took it one step further by saying that he's interested in working toward legalizing it entirely.

He acknowledged potential push-back from women's advocacy groups, but said if the idea makes sense, he'd be open to it.

A member of the steering committee of DecrimNY supports the idea, but others aren't so keen on the idea.

“People are going to think that all women are the same, and they're going to think that it's OK, and now they're going to offer money to all women," says decriminalization opposer Wanda Conde.

The D.A. described the current policy as a soft prosecution.

Cases are typically dismissed after a desk appearance, ticket and social service check-up.

Even now, he says, those arrested rarely, if ever, go to jail.
