A local doctor says parents should have no hesitation about getting their young children boosted with the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made the decision in May to recommend that children ages 5 to 11 get a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
"Currently, there's already been millions of children ages 5 and above who have already been vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine against COVID 19," says Dr. Rizwana Shams of NYC Health + Hospitals / Kings County. "And we've seen that they've done really great, right, we're not seeing any long-term side effects, we're not seeing any very serious side effects in these children."
If children ages 5 to 11 eventually receive the OK to get boosted, they will receive a lower dosage as compared to other age groups.
