Brooklyn parents and educators are excited about a new billion-dollar funding proposal for New York schools, but worry city schools will end up short-changed in the deal. Governor Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) has drafted a new formula for school funding, making the system based on need. The $1.2 billion proposal would give funding to schools that have previously been going without. However, many parents that gathered outside P.S. 170 in Bay Ridge say Brooklyn schools are in dier need and worry they won?t get their fair slice. Some advocates are demanding New York City senators not vote for the proposal. They say most of the money will go to wealthy school district for reasons other than need or education.
