A Brooklyn father who stood up for his son at a Prospect Park playground was fatally shot Wednesday.
Gerald Cummings, 38, was shot in the head Wednesday night on the playground at P.S. 6.
Cummings' 17-year-old son was playing basketball in the park when he saw a boy who had stolen his baseball cap days earlier. The 17-year-old then called his father to help him get his baseball cap back.
Police say Cummings was shot by a 16-year-old while attempting to retrieve the Oakland Raider cap.
Police tell News 12 Brooklyn that Cummings died at Kings County Hospital form gunshot wounds to the head and back.
Investigators are searching for the boy they say pulled the trigger.
