Brooklyn is going vegetarian starting Sunday with the First Annual Vegetarian Restaurant Week.
The Brooklyn event is part of a larger world vegetarian awareness month. Local organizers said the goal is to spread the word about healthy eating options and to spotlight businesses that cater to vegetarians.
"Vegetarian awareness is really about letting people know what's going on," said organizer Melissa Haile. "And encouraging people to make more conscious decisions when it comes to their food consumption."Eight Brooklyn restaurants are participating in the event by offering special deals and discounts. Annual Vegetarian Restaurant Week runs through October 27.
