A new Brooklyn high school has opened its doors this fall for its first year. However, un-reached enrollment goals may cause Brooklyn Latin to lose the federal funding needed to keep those doors open.

Brooklyn Latin has set the bar high for students wishing to enroll, requiring an ?A? average and high test results on state exams. However, their promise of beginning this school year with 125 students has fallen much shorter than expected. Now, with only 58 students currently attending, Brooklyn Latin faces losing its federal funding unless their enrollment goal is met by October 31.

Officials say the enrollment goals may have been reached if Brooklyn Latin had introduced admission applications earlier. If the school does not fill the empty seats by the deadline, they will be forced to return thousands of dollars of previously granted funds.
