You've probably heard about the Gold Rush in California, but how about one in Coney Island?
Brooklyn resident Paul Money claims he found the precious metal on the shores of Brooklyn's most famous beach.
Money's fascination with gold goes all the way back to his childhood. Six years ago, the Coney Island father went to Manhattan Beach, where he tested some of the sand through a gold refinery.
"What really shocked me was that there was more gold than silver in my concentrates that I had, which kind of blew my mind," says Money.
Then he took a break -- until last week. Just days after his 37th birthday, he says something told him to check out the Brooklyn beach.
He went, and then after doing an at-home test, he says he found gold.
The New York City Parks Department says a permit was not issued for this, saying in part, "Collection of soil, rocks, artifacts, plants or their parts, animals or their nests/eggs, from NYC Parks is strictly regulated. Anyone wishing to make such collections within Parks' property must receive special permission to do so."
Money says he was unaware of the permit process, but puts all of the sand back after using it. He plans to continue researching gold and its process.
