The suspected gunman is a Brooklyn man with Georgia ties and more than 16 arrests. Police have identified him as 31-year-old Raheem Joye.
Joye remains in the hospital, but is now facing several charges including aggravated assault on a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon.
Dozens of police were on the scene Wednesday investigating on Gates Avenue for hours.
Shortly after allegedly shooting officer Orlando Adourno in the foot, Joye took off on foot but was captured by police after a brief shootout. Joye was shot in the thigh and apprehended.
