A 55-year-old Brooklyn man faces five years in prison after pleading guilty for his involvement in buying and selling stolen jewelry across the country.

Salim Sakal pleaded guilty before a judge in Bridgeport on Tuesday, according to the Connecticut District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors say Sakal bought and sold stolen jewelry from seven burglaries between May 2023 and April 2024.

They say the case is connected to an organized theft ring of Colombian nationals who stole $4.4 million worth of jewelry from stores and kiosks in malls across 11 states – including Connecticut.

Law enforcement officials say none of the stolen jewelry has been recovered.

Sakal has agreed to pay $2.4 million in restitution jointly with other convicted individuals.

Sentencing is set for April.
