A Bensonhurst middle school transformed its gymnasium into a ballroom today for students with dancing fever.
Fourth- and fifth-graders at P.S. 682 are learning to ballroom dance through the Dancing Classrooms program.
Students spend 10 weeks learning different ballroom dances including merengue, the tango and swing. They seem to really love it too, saying it's a lot of fun and the best part is being able to spend time with their friends.
The program not only includes learning dance steps but also life lessons to develop their social skills.
"It is a program that uses the medium of ballroom dancing as a tool for respect, elegance and teamwork and social and emotional learning," says Dancing Classrooms instructor Marlon Mill.
