Reopening of Brooklyn Mirage on pause due safety concerns

The planned reopening of a popular Williamsburg nightclub in Williamsburg has been paused due to serious safety concerns.
The Brooklyn Mirage was supposed to reopen Thursday night for the first time in two years.
The venue was caught up in controversy after two Brooklyn ravers were found dead near the nightclub back in 2023.
The club has been under renovation since November to address safety issues and community concerns.
A spokesperson for the city said in a statement that the venue will stay shuttered for now saying in part, "Unfortunately, the venue does not currently meet the standards required for either a permanent or temporary structure."
News 12 spoke with Josh Wyatt, CEO of Avant Gardner, which runs the Brooklyn Mirage before its planned opening. He said the venue is going the extra mile to ensure guests feel protected.
"We wanted to be a good neighbor at our own cost having patrol cars go around late at night after the show to make sure people get back to the subway and a safe and secure environment," Wyatt said.
The city says the Brooklyn Mirage will remain closed until its been deemed safe and properly permitted.
