Brooklyn moms commemorate breast-feeding week
Mothers in Brooklyn and Borough President Eric Adams gathered Saturday to commemorate global breast-feeding week.
Many of the mothers gathered on the steps of Borough Hall publicly and breast-fed their babies for one minute.
The event was supported by agencies that help with breast-feeding and the support of women's rights.
Mothers at the event believe that the gathering can go a long way to changing the shaming of women who breast-feed publicly.
"Who we are hoping we are affecting with these kinds of public events are the people who are not breast-feeding yet," one woman says. "The people who haven't given birth yet right. We want to normalize breast-feeding."
Adams says he has opened a lactation room at Borough Hall, and has introduced legislation passed by the City Council that will allow municipal agencies to provide services to make lactation rooms available to the public.
