Brooklyn native and former high-ranking NYPD Chief Joe Esposito has died after a battle with cancer.

Mayor Eric Adams posted to X calling him a friend for almost 30 years.

Recently, Esposito had served as the mayor's deputy commissioner of the Department of Buildings.

The mayor says city flags will fly at half-staff on Tuesday in Esposito's honor.
