Many Brooklyn nursing home residents will soon be getting more privacy.
Four nursing homes in Brooklyn will join 13 others in rightsizing their facilities. The rightsizing is part of a statewide effort to create more health care options for seniors. Governor Pataki (R-NY) has tapped Cobble Hill Health Center, Menorah Nursing Home, Metropolitan Jewish Geriatric and Rutland Nursing Home to begin rightsizing. Each of the homes will phase out more than 300 beds and create bedrooms and apartments.
Officials in each of the nursing homes say all of the changes will not affect the care of patients. Staff members at Coble Hill have already begun planning their rightsizing, which will begin within 18 months. The Coble Hill Health Center project will cost near $60 million and is expected to take about five years to complete.
