Brooklyn will be the only borough taking place in a national health study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Nora Martinello went door-to-door Wednesday to see if residents qualify to participate in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
Martinello, a senior study manager, says the study tracks appearance of diseases such as osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol in children.
She says the study will focus on various ethnic groups in the borough. Experts say obesity, heart disease and diabetes affect many communities in Brooklyn.
Martinello says the data collected will help set the growth charts pediatricians use for children.
The survey happens annually, and this year Brooklyn was selected along with 14 other counties.
Participants can earn $125 in travel expenses.
