A Brooklyn assemblywoman is using informal meetings with locals to help her community.

Assemblywoman Jo Anne Simon says she wanted her constituents to feel comfortable talking to her about some of the issues they feel must be addressed within the community.

In order to do so, she is meeting with locals as part of the "Assemble on Your Stoop" initiative.

"I think it's good because she wants to be a part of the community," says Brooklyn Heights resident Arnold Wolff. "She wants to know what people are thinking; what are they having problems [with] mentioned to her."

"It's where you catch up with people, where you meet people you didn't know before," says Simon.

Simon says the meetings are casual. They will be held across the 52nd District, the area she covers, which includes neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Gowanus.

An "Assemble on Your Stoop" will be held this Thursday in Park Slope. Another is set for Oct. 6 in Carroll Gardens.
