What started as a typical Tuesday morning commute, ended as anything but.
News 12 spoke with Dr. Ramaswamy Viswanathan, a psychiatrist at Downstate Health Sciences University, to find out how to move forward following the Brooklyn subway shootings on Tuesday.
Colleagues of Dr. Viswanathan were inside the 36th Street station when the shots rang out.
They are now dealing with the emotional aftermath.
According to the psychiatrist, the first step toward healing is facing your fear, getting back on the train and assuming a normal routine.
Dr. Viswanathan says it’s also important to open up about your feelings. The doctor encourages people to seek help and join support groups to provide an outlet for those reliving the chaos.
Dr. Viswanathan also says remembering to unplug and to limit how much of the scene you are watching online.
All who are struggling to cope with Tuesday’s attack are encouraged to reach out to Downstate Health Sciences University.
