Roaches and rat droppings were just a few of the violations found by health inspectors when they checked in on Brooklyn and city public school cafeterias.
The New York Post reports that nearly one in 10 public school cafeterias failed inspections last year, which is almost three times the previous year's rate. According to the Post, health officials found more than 100 live and dead roaches at PS 328 during three separate inspections. And at PS 46, inspectors found mice had gnawed their way through several bags of food.
A Department of Education official says the violations are unacceptable. The official says the DOE vows to slash the number of violations by 25 percent next year.
