Software developers and entrepreneurs competed for $25,000 prizes in a competition to develop apps to address some of the city's most pressing problems.
The NYC BigApps 2015 competition sought to invite solutions for affordable housing, waste, connectivity and civic engagement issues.
One of the grand prize winners was Dan Kass, a Brooklyn resident who created an app to help renters obtain repairs in their homes.
Another Brooklyn resident won a $10,000 prize.
