Residents in Brooklyn are celebrating National Men's Health Week.
Doctors and others are working to promote healthy living and encourage the early detection of diseases among men and boys.
Dr. Roland Purcell from Interfaith Medical Center says fear of the white coat shouldn't keep men out of the exam room. He says men should have an annual physical exam.
Dr. Purcell says that a big health challenge for men is their weight. He says too much weight around the midsection is not good, and neither is high blood pressure.
Dr. Purcell says there is an epidemic of obesity and it has a lot to do with lifestyle. He says both men and women need to get moving, put down the cookies and pick up an orange instead.
National Men's Health Week is celebrated the week before Father's Day every year.
