The 2014 FIFA World Cup kicked off Thursday in Brazil.
Fans packed sports bars in the borough with their eyes glued to the television screens. Brazilian bar Miss Favela, in Williamsburg, was filled with fans hoping for the host country to win its first match against Croatia.
Spectators were decked out in Brazilian jerseys, cheering, dancing and watching the game. For many people who couldn't book a ticket to Brazil, being at the bar is like being at home.
Brazil defeated Croatia 3-1.
People there said they also expect another packed house on Monday, when the U.S. plays Ghana.
