An East Flatbush soccer club won big on a trip to South Africa, but they also made a lasting impact.
Central Brooklyn Soccer Club helps young people from Brooklyn get exposure to the real world by playing internationally. They have gone on annual overseas trips since 2012, visiting places like Portugal and Dubai.
This year, the group went to Johannesburg, South Africa, and returned home winning seven of their eight games.
The group of 12- to 16-year-olds say the teams they went up against were challenging and had a completely different skillset.
The trip also shed light on those from the area who were less fortunate than they are. In return, they gave away some of their own cleats and clothes, a $6,000 donation and some gear given to them by Nike.
Club leaders say they hope to take the team to Ghana next year.
