After the mass shooting that killed 17 people at a Florida high school, Brooklyn students met with Borough President Eric Adams Thursday to support their peers in Florida and to demand change to gun laws.
Students are asking lawmakers to raise the age limit to purchase firearms and to ban assault rifles.
They are also asking to host a walkout at their schools and for the borough to hold a voter registration drive for students turning 18.
“Legislation right now is the most powerful tool that could be used to decrease the number of school shootings,” said one student.
Adams says Prospect Park could be a place for students to hold an anti-gun student walk out and that he will also be sponsoring buses for the students who want to take part in the ‘March for Your Lives’ event next month.
