Students in the neighborhood of Brooklyn known as Little Haiti are joining together to raise funds for Haiti's earthquake relief efforts.
Central Brooklyn Ascend Middle School is planning to launch a one-month, schoolwide coin drive, with each class competing against each other to fill their coin jars with the most change.
The rally at the school today was meant to inform the children about the areas affected by the earthquake that rocked Haiti on Aug. 14, leaving more than 2,000 people dead and over 50,000 homes destroyed.
At the end of the coin drive, the principal will personally take the coins to Haiti to make sure it gets into the hands of those in need.
