Creativity, movement and community are at the heart of what Paris Alexandra envisioned when she founded the Brooklyn Wellness Club.
The Brooklyn-based wellness space offers yoga, Pilates, workshops and multigenerational mindfulness programs designed to bring people together and create a sense of belonging.
“I really see the Brooklyn Wellness Club as a space for people to breathe,” Alexandra said. “There's a lot of messaging to the world. But here you can create those messages for yourself and affirm that by not only yourself, but seeing that yourself in someone else.”
Now, Alexandra says she’s adding another word to describe the club: resilient.
A winter storm in January caused significant damage to the club’s backyard patio, tearing part of the roof structure apart and leaving Alexandra working to repair the space while continuing to run programming.
Rather than seeing the damage as a setback, Alexandra says she’s approaching the rebuilding process as an opportunity for renewal.
“It’s an opportunity to rebuild,” she said. “When things break and, you know, literally the roof collapsed, it was an opportunity to rebuild and renew. That’s the intention I want to carry into this new rebuilding phase of the Brooklyn Wellness Club.”
To help cover repair costs, Alexandra launched a community fundraiser that has already raised more than $1,700 toward a $2,600 goal.
She says the support reflects the deeper mission of the space.
“It’s beyond drinking a green juice,” Alexandra said. “It’s really the ways in which we connect with each other, affirm each other and continue to create together and honor our experiences, our cultures, our traditions and our stories.”
As rebuilding efforts continue, Alexandra is also opening new membership opportunities for creatives and wellness practitioners interested in hosting events or building community at the club.
“If you're an influencer, a creative wellness practitioner and you're interested in growing your brand and creating community, we have a membership model to support you,” she said. “Having a space where you can see your reflection be affirmed and co-create in community has been the vision of the Brooklyn Wellness Club since day one.”
