An 11-year-old boy from Brownsville hasn’t been seen in weeks, and neighbors say the silence around his disappearance is disturbing.
A sign posted by the NYPD where the boy lives reads "Seal for door of DOA premises." Police tell News 12 the boy was not found on premises.
Police say they were first called to the boy’s Howard Avenue building after a request from Children’s Services for a wellness check. Officers searched the apartment, the backyard and even a dumpster nearby. Still—no sign of the child.
One neighbor, David Alcantara, said the case is hitting him hard as a parent.
“It’s disturbing that people don’t take care of their kids. I can’t think of stuff like that because I love my kids,” Alcantara said.
Sources tell News 12 the boy’s mother was taken into police custody Wednesday and later moved to a hospital to be evaluated. Police are treating her as emotionally disturbed.
Neighbors say they often heard the mother yelling at the boy before he vanished. Now, many are asking the same question: Where is this child?
As of Friday, Oct. 3, police have not released a photo of the missing boy.
